THEIR STORY

Mark Epps has been in Spokane for over 10 years now and has seen his vision come to fruition. The idea he had came from experiences dating back to 1980. From there life took him all over the world. As a world traveler, he went and searched out the local places, followed his nose and talked to the locals and tasted foods and things some people can only dream about. These things did include coffee and tea. To really know the correct way to prepare these drinks, Mark believes that it is better to go and see it for yourself. To get the feel in a foreign city, to see it wake up, to smell the streets as you select beans in the Fresh Markets of the Philippines or learn the process to make a “kahve” in Istanbul. Go and browse the markets of Geoje, South Korea or the souks in Morocco for those exquisite tastes. Then there is tea…. To sit after a meal in Dalian, China and enjoy a spot of tea in a water garden or wandering the streets of Uruguay while sipping on a cold “Terere” always hit the spot! Not only is it refreshing but teas have lots of medicinal benefits as well. A nice tea with some honey always soothes…...

Now he is offering his experience to you. In a uniquely styled trailer “Metioche”, the Gypsy will come to your event and serve these unique drinks along with Lattes, Cappuccinos, Cocoas, and the like, hot or cold as well as blended and iced coffees. He also serves fresh fruit smoothies, Italian and Red Bull sodas and has an array of confections to your liking. For different people comes different things such as Soy milk and sugar-free substitutes so don’t worry, the Gypsy, has it covered!

The word “Metioche” comes from Greek Mythology and is about how two sisters sacrificed themselves to save their village from a plague. When you see the Gypsy, just ask and he will tell you all about it. The Metioche project itself took two years to build and another two years to bring it all together and become what it is today with the goal of becoming a staple of Spokane and the surrounding areas.

“If a man does not keep pace with his companions, perhaps it is because he hears a different drummer. Let him step to the music which he hears, however measured or far away.” - Henry David Thoreau

“I like to think outside the box. Go down the less traveled road. Most of the time, if you just ask, you’ll probably get it. Sometimes you just have to just get out there and do it no matter what anyone tells you. If you KNOW it will work, then it will! I have never been one to wear cultural blinders in life. It’s more exciting and delicious that way.” - Mark A. Epps
