More than 43 years ago, Mary and Lou started making Spokane’s Most Awarded ice cream. We are Mary Lou’ Homemade Ice Cream & More! Originating in the Spokane Valley in 1976, we have served our ice cream at the Spokane interstate fairgrounds every year since!
The Ritchie Family bought the Valley ice cream parlor in 1991 and continued to churn premium ice cream for Spokane, serving at many events in Washington and Idaho. We expanded our store location when the Milk Bottle was purchased over 20 years ago! It has grown and become Spokane’s favorite place for a burger, fries, and award winning milk shakes or dessert!
Four generations have grown up making and serving our homemade ice cream and our Papa was Washington state’s first dairy inspector! We moved our ice cream production to the Garland Business District sadly due to extensive and repeated vandalism of the valley ice cream parlor. But that didn’t slow us down!
Our first couple of awards were for being in the top 10 in America and came from the book, “Americas Best Ice Cream and Where to Find It”. We were voted by a readers poll in Sunset Magazine as one of the best ice cream shops in the Northwestern United States! We have also had the reader’s poll of the Inlander, voting us best for the last 5 years!
We still serve at the Spokane interstate fairgrounds and receive awards for our ice cream, milk shakes, and elephant ears. Last year our new dessert invention, Apple Cinnamon Fries, got the “best of” award at the fairgrounds! Remember, all are made from scratch recipes and all (but the elephant ears) are gluten free!
